Go Forth and Bear Fruit, Frank Meng My parents have met with the local churches and have enjoyed the speaking of Witness Lee for as long as I can remember, and I have enjoyed the Lord and the brothers and sisters in the local church for all my life. Yet, during my years in college and graduate school, I had the feeling that I was only skimming the surface when it came to understanding the Bible truths and knowing the Lord in a real way. Because of this feeling, after graduate school I made a decision before the Lord to give myself to go to the Full-Time Training. The aspect of the Full-Time Training that has affected my daily life the most has been the experience of gospel preaching on the college campuses. For me, this experience has revolutionized my concepts concerning gospel preaching. One verse which has left a deep impression in me is John 15:16, which is a verse the Lord Jesus spoke concerning fruit bearing: You did not choose Me, but I chose you, and I set you that you should go forth and bear fruit and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name, He may give you. The ministry of Witness Lee has fully unveiled the significance and meaning of this verse to me. The Lord has set us, as a wild branch that is grafted into a vine, into Him, that we would be in an organic union with Him. As grafted branches, our goal, our destiny, is to bear remaining fruit. I was touched by the speaking concerning this verse that it is not an option to bear fruit. We have been set by the Lord as branches to bear fruit. Witness Lee's ministry has shown me that bearing fruit is not just going out to speak the gospel, but even after bringing one to receive the Lord, we must also care for them, to help them grow and mature in life. Before I began the Full-Time Training, I never preached the gospel or helped to shepherd people in a regular and consistent way. The Training has helped me to build up a regular practice of going out to bear fruit. I can testify that there is joy when you bring someone to the Lord and care for them as they grow in life. I now realize that I experience such a joy because I am fulfilling my destiny as a branch grafted into Christ. I also have been impressed that our fruit bearing is not for our own edification, but it is for the building of the Body of Christ. I can say before the Lord that the Full-Time Training has really caused me to be desperate to be a fruit-bearing branch. He, as the vine, is faithful to supply me that I could reach others and supply them. Main | History | Testimonies | Links Copyright © 2002. Christian Websites. All Rights Reserved |
